Cancellation of Mass Gatherings

VIrus

Residents of Santaquin City,

In support of the recommendations coming from Utah Governor Gary Herbert, Santaquin City will be implementing enhanced safety precautions to prevent the spread of the Corona Virus (COVID-19).  Those recommendations include the cancellation of mass gatherings of 100 or more healthy individuals and cancellation of mass gatherings of 20 or more healthy individuals over the age of 60.

In response, Santaquin City will immediately implement the following until further notice:

  • Suspending all programing for its senior citizens, including its Thursday lunches, billiards, cards, and exercise programs (e.g. 50 & Fit, Sit & Get Fit etc.);
  • Suspending child care in our recreational facility; all other recreation programs will continue;
  • Suspending the Storytime Program at the Library; regular Library hours and other programs will continue;
  • Modifying other recreational programs as needed (e.g. player evaluations, games, etc.) to limit group sizes; additional communications will be forthcoming based upon specific programs; and
  • Implementing enhanced cleaning procedures of public surfaces and exercise equipment.

Many cities in the State of Utah are considering the declaration of a State of Emergency.  While Santaquin City recommends that all of our residents follow enhanced hygienic practices, as recommended by the CDC (available on www.santaquin.org), Santaquin City is Not declaring a State of Emergency at the present time for the following reasons:

  • The Utah County Health Department has the authority to take all necessary actions;
  • An Emergency Declaration does not currently provide any financial benefit at a municipal level;
  • Santaquin City does not have a current need for emergency purchasing procedures;
  • We do not need a declaration to implement prudent procedures and recommendations made by Federal and State authorities; and
  • We are not planning to change office hours or meeting schedules.

In accordance with the recommendations of Governor Herbert, we respectfully ask that our residents use wisdom and prudence when seeking medical attention and when purchasing supplies to prevent an overload of those resources.

Santaquin City may enhance or lift these restrictions as more information becomes available.

Thank you,

Mayor Kirk F. Hunsaker
