Campaign Financial Disclosure Statements

Campaign Financial Disclosures

There are many different approaches to campaigning for public office, both strategically and financially. One candidate's style may be to spend a minimal amount of funds on a couple of homemade signs and another might prefer to solicit multiple donors for donations to fund dozens of signs. Whatever a candidate's style or preferences for campaigning may be, all candidates are unified in the requirement to submit to their city or town clerks periodic copies of document called a Campaign Financial Disclosure Statement.

To put it simply, Campaign Financial Disclosures have candidates list their campaign donations, including both monetary donations and in-kind donations which are anything of value that isn't explicitly money, and their campaign expenditures. The purpose of a Campaign Financial Disclosure Statement is to keep candidate's accountable for the way they're expending donated and public funds. Rules on what these campaign funds can and can't be used for are all laid out clearly in Utah State Code 10-3-208 which defines what is and what is not considered an appropriate campaign contribution (another word for donation) and expenditure.

As required by Utah State Code 10-3-208(8)(b)(i)(B), Santaquin City is required to post either an electronic copy or the contents of the statement on the city website no later than seven business days after the statement is filed.
