Message to Residents from Mayor Olson
Dear Santaquin Residents,
Over the past few weeks, I have worked with the Santaquin City Council to plan a path forward to name a new City Manager. This is a very difficult thing to do, but I want to first publicly wish Ben Reeves the very best as he heads to Iowa to take the position of City Manager in a new city. Ben, you will be missed by many, and we all wish you the best as you uproot and take your family on this new adventure.
As we approach this next council meeting, you will see a line item on the agenda to approve a resolution approving an employee agreement with Norman Beagley to be the Santaquin City Manager effective May 19, 2022.
The council has had two executive sessions to discuss the matter in accordance with state law, and no meetings have been held to vote on or proceed on this matter. No votes have been taken and, per state law, this approval will require a super majority vote to pass in the open meeting on Tuesday.
I first want to say that Norm has 14-1/2 years of experience with Santaquin City as a Professional Engineer and as Assistant City Manager. He is well aware of the duties and responsibilities of the City Manager. In Santaquin, he is the foremost in knowledge on water issues, both secondary and culinary requirements, including issues with water wells, water rights, and permits. He is foremost in understanding of the CUP and its imminent construction to begin in the months ahead. He was part of the Wastewater Treatment Facility design and construction and a lead engineer behind the project. He has extensive knowledge of new water tanks for culinary and secondary water and is active in making sure all parts of the city’s systems are in proper working order. He works exceptionally well with the entire city staff and can handle the challenges of helping the city operate smoothly. His engineering staff carry on his love of the city systems and infrastructure.
Along with all his talents, he comes with local knowledge and understanding of the culture. He represents the city with great respect which is reciprocated by all who meet with him or who need direction within the global understanding of what Santaquin provides and maintains.
I feel it important at this time that this news comes from the source. We as a city and city council want all to know that a link to the resolution to make this appointment is posted not only with the regular city council agenda postings but will be on our social media page and this Santaquin.org website so all can read it. Kindest regards to all,
Mayor Dan Olson
